Judges Cup 2012

This past Saturday was the official start to the sanctioned meets of the 2012-2013 competition season!  Sophia started off the meet on bars.  I cannot show you video of her bar routine because I missed the majority it!  She saluted the judges and Ivan moved her off the spring board.  It looked like he was going to pull one of her teammates up to perform, so I figured she was not going yet and looked away.  When I looked back towards the bars, she was doing her routine.  I am not completely sure what happened but she did not have her best bar routine and scored a 7.700 - 9th place.  She moved on to beam next.  Her beam routine looked good - a few balance checks but otherwise good!  After she finished her routine, one of her teammates got up to do her routine - and her teammate's number was flashed on the score board with a 9.100 - and after her teammate finished, Sophia's number was flashed with an 8.900. Sophia technically had the 9.100, but since I cannot prove that they flashed the wrong number and mixed up the score cards, Sophia got the 8.900 and 4th place on beam.  Her 3rd event of the day was floor!  Her dad, Ronan and Caitlyn were able to come to the meet at this point so I am sure this affected the outcome of her floor routine.  Let me just say that it was absolutely STUNNING!!  She has such a beautiful ability on the floor!!  I am amazed every time I watch her!!  She blew the judges away and scored a 9.600 and a first place medal!!  The final event of the day was vault!  Two nicely done vaults earned her a 9.000 and 5th place medal!  Her all around score was 35.200 for 4th place finish in her age group!  Had she been given the correct score on beam, she would have had a 35.400 and 3rd place trophy!  But it is what it is!  I am not going to contest the score issue!  I am super proud of her for many reasons but most of all because she stayed strong after having such a rough start on bars and finished out the rest of the meet well!  Her team walked away with the 1st place Team Trophy with a score of 109.925!  Not a bad way to start out the year!! Her next meet is the Pilgrim Harvest Invitational at South High Community High School in Worcester on November 17 at 1pm!  Please enjoy the pictures and videos and thank you for your continued support!
