Sophia's Gymnastics Journey: 2014 Brestyan's Invitational

Welcome back friends and family! Yesterday, Sophia and her Elite Level 7 teammates competed at the 2014 Brestyan's Invitational. Her group was competing in the last session of the entire meet! Of course, we got the to meet site super early but that did not put a damper on Sophia's mood! She was determined to do her best and "kick butt and take names!!"

The first event of the evening was floor!! Woohoo! This is Sophia's favorite event!! Sophia went out there and totally rocked her floor routine! She made a few minor changes to it and these changes make this routine look great!! She earned a 9.500 for her routine and 1st place in her age group! (I will get to the age groupings later!) Please enjoy Sophia's beautiful floor routine here! I will say that the vault table and those standing near it somewhat interfere with being able to see parts of her routine - and it's a little blurry (I am going to have the hubs show me how to use his handheld camcorder for future meets!)

The second event of the night was vault! I recorded both vaults - and they both looked great!! She had a little hop at the landing of the 1st vault and her 2nd vault was gorgeous! She scored a 9.400 and took 2nd place!! Sophia is really coming into her own with her vaulting!! Cannot wait until you see what she has been working on in practice!! I really like the way these vault videos turned out! The angle is kind of cool looking!! Check them out for yourself!!

The 3rd event of the night was bars! Sophia did a great looking bar routine! She does need to get a little higher out of her free hip - but otherwise she is getting better with each meet!! She scored 8.850 and took 4th place! Here is her bar routine! Enjoy!

The final event of the night was beam! Sophia looked great on beam! She had a few small wobbles but that is fine with us! She scored a 9.200 and took 3rd place!! Her beam routine:

As you can see, Sophia had a wonderful meet!! Her All-Around score was 36.950 and placed her at the top of her age group for the meet!! That's right, Sophia took 1st place in her age group! The level 7's were separated into 5 age groups (1-5) and Sophia was in age group 3! Her teammates all performed well at this meet and we are proud of all of them!! The team score was 112.475 for a 2nd place finish! The first place team score was only 0.125 points above Elite!
