This weekend, Sophia and her level 5 teammates competed in the Team Challenge Invitational in Danbury, Connecticut! This meet was hosted by Gymnastics Revolution gym and was another meet that did a collection for charity. This meet sent blue Make-a-Wish stars to the gymnasts to "sell" to friends and family for a charitable donation! Sophia was given 20 stars and "sold" all of them in one day - and collected additional money from other people to give her a grand total of $60 to be donated to the Make-a-Wish foundation -- which has a special place in our hearts because of our friend Sami!!
As for the competition - Sophia and her teammates started out on vault! She did 2 good vaults and scored 9.175 for a 3rd place finish! Next came bars - she did a beautiful bar routine, earned a 9.200 and received a 3rd place medal! The 3rd event of the day was beam! Let me tell you that her beam was beautiful - a few wobbles, but good enough to get her a 9.500 and a 1st place medal!! Finally, Sophia took her place on the floor for a wonderful routine! She scored a 9.450 and took the 2nd place honor!! Sophia was awarded the 1st place medal for all-around for the intermediate age group with a score of 37.325!! We are so proud of her and all her hard work! At the end of the awarding of the individual medals, team awards were announced!! The Elite Gymnastics level 5 team was awarded the 1st place level 5 trophy with a score of 185 (they took the top 5 scores from each event - unlike the rest of the meets in which the top 3 scores are used to calculate team score!)!
